This is a redesign project I did during my design studies. We thought it had great potential, so I reached out to the stakeholders to propose my design. Although initially enthusiastic, they ultimately decided to drop the project due to the development costs involved

Role

UX/UI

High level goals

Design a user experience that validates audience needs, demonstrating expertise in addressing color blindness and building trust in our ability to offer tailored solutions.

Challenges along the way

Firstly, we had to consider our target audience, recognizing that they not only experience color blindness but often face visual impairment as well. This highlighted the importance of creating an accessible design while considering many restrictions.

Next, we wrestled with the challenge of brand identity. Our instinct was to incorporate a vibrant palette but how could we convey vibrancy without excluding our target audience?

Lastly, we confronted the challenge of information overload. The original site was loaded with content – about the technology, how it works, about the research, the awards, etc. We had to make decisions about what to leave and what was just not interesting enough for the potential buyer.

Competitors
There aren’t many competitors in the field of glasses for the color blind, and those that exist have done an unimpressive job on their website and design language. Therefore, I decided to research competitors offering solutions for people with disabilities .

User research

During my UX interview, I had insightful conversations with seven individuals who are color blind. I explored their perspectives on how they perceive the world and whether they feel they miss out on anything. They even shared some funny anecdotes.

One participant, Amit, clarified a common misconception: “People often assume color-blind people see the world in black and white, but the reality is far more nuanced, with various types of color blindness. Many of us can still perceive certain colors effectively.”

This perspective resonated with me, especially with the evidence I found on Google that supported it. It was a breakthrough moment for me, affirming the importance of leveraging this understanding in my design approach.

Key learnings

Mix and match

My research found that Deuteranopes see yellow better, Tritanopes see red better, and those with Monochromacy perceive everything in black and white. To address this, I created a website that adapts tousers specific types of color blindness.

Absolutely necessary

Given the common association of color blindness with other visual challenges, I simplified the original site's content for clarity. Identifying the MVP of the product, I organized it into two categories: catalog for purchases and story for background and functionality details.

Show me

I prioritized showcasing product images. underscoring its unparalleled uniqueness. With such a distinctive product, I found it unnecessary to rely on discount strategies or promotions. Instead, I focused on presenting the exceptional qualities of our offering.
